Kessock Equine Vets is based in Inverness and exclusively treats horses, ponies, donkeys and mules. It is the only veterinary practice in the Highlands that dedicates itself to equine animals. ![]() NEWS October 08 AUTUMN DENTAL PROMOTION During October and November all dental treatment is 10% off. Please call the office for details! Jack Wallace BVM&S MRCVS has joined the practice. Jack is a keen rider and when not working enjoys competing his horse McCrinkle. Many thanks to those of you who have made Jack feel so welcome in his first few weeks with us. February 08 The practice is delighted to welcome Louise Joliffe BVMS MRCVS who joins us after five years working in the Midlands. Louise is a graduate of the Glasgow University Veterinary School. Chris Matthews BVM&S MRCVS rejoins the practice after four months working for Veresdale Equine Veterinary Services in Queensland, Australia. February traditionally marks the beginning of the breeding season and the practice has already begun checking and scanning mares prior to covering. We expect to be even busier this year with artificial insemination. If you are thinking about breeding from your mare this year then please feel free to contact the vets for advice. Before breeding any mare (whether by AI or natural service) an ultrasound examination by a vet or 'pre-breeding check' is a good idea to identify any potential problems eg. endometritis. Through February and March the practice is offering horse owners who wish to begin vaccinating their horse (for the first time or due to lapsed vaccinations) the first vaccination in the course free of charge. Horses should be vaccinated for influenza and tetanus. Tetanus is a potentially deadly disease which all horses are at risk from- while it is uncommon this is partly due to the high number of horses vaccinated. The Highlands also saw an outbreak of Equine Influenza in 2007 and owners are strongly advised to make sure all vaccinations are up to date.
